Omni Expo Koi Pond Stock by Bon-AppetEats Omni Expo Koi Pond Stock by Bon-AppetEats

Sorry for so many images crammed into one post. I’m very short on time and I wanted to make sure I posted all of the ponds I’m taking to Omni Expo this weekend.

Some Info:

  • The water is clear resin.
  • No, the fish/frogs/turtles are not real; they’re made from polymer clay.
  • Yes, I did make them all by hand.
  • They are not for sale right now. You can maybe grab one after my show is over next weekend.
  • My commissions are closed at the moment and will reopen May 30. You can commission your own pond then, but please be aware there is a queue for pond commissions at this time.

And if you’re near or in Orlando this coming weekend, here’s some info on Omni Expo:

When: May 23 - 25, 2014
Where: Marriott World Center in Orlando, FL
Website

I will be there all three days at Table 15 in the Artist Alley. :)

I know I've been slow posting here, but I'm really active on both tumblr and Instagram. My username on Instagram is bon_appeteats if anyone wants to follow me there.

I love these! The ones with the tiny turtles are my favorites. Is clear resin very difficult to work with?

Thanks! It can be tricky. Resin is pretty temperamental. You have to mix it exactly right or it won't set. It's really frustrating to ruin a piece you spent a lot of time working on just because you misjudged your mixture by the tiniest amount.

I would imagine so. Does it get foggy or bubbly if you mix it wrong? I'm thinking of giving Sculpey a try since I've long appreciated the tiny food sculptures you and several other artists make. Do you have any advice for someone who's brand new to Sculpey?

It does. I have a link to a beginner's guide to polymer clay on my profile you might find helpful. :)

Do you pour the resin layer by layer or do you just pour it all in one go?

Would you be able to do one with a tiny water fall? Not an actually flowing water fall but a still clear one.

Thanks! I haven't played around with sculpting resin, but I have seen a couple of tutorials on how to get a falling water effect.

You can commission one when I reopen commissions, or you can try to snag one when I list them on Etsy, if there are any left.

A commission is an item you special order for yourself. You tell me what you'd like and I give you a price for how much it will cost.

My commissions open again on the 30th. I'll put a journal up when they're open. Your best bet would be to send me a note with exactly what you're looking for then for a price.
