Miniature Boston Cream Pie Charms - Charity Item by Bon-AppetEats Miniature Boston Cream Pie Charms - Charity Item by Bon-AppetEats
Mini Boston Cream Pie charms, made from polymer clay.

From my Etsy Listing:

“This item was made in light of the bombings at the Boston Marathon on 4/15/13. All proceeds from this item will be collected over the course of the month and a lump sum donation will be made on 5/15/13.

***100% of the proceeds made from this item will be donated to the Red Cross.***

The only money I will retain will be for shipping to pay for postage and packaging costs, as well as cover a small amount of the materials.

I will be keeping a tally of the donations made on my DeviantArt account: Bon-AppetEats.DeviantArt.com”

They can be found here: [link]

Tumblr: [link]

*Edit: There's no need to thank me - this is a very small contribution in the scope of things. If anything give thanks to the volunteers and emergency response personnel who are really making a difference. :)

Depending on the amount that I receive, I'm trying to see if I can match the donation total amount in the end. If not I'll be contributing a set extra amount.*

I'm very touched that you thought of doing this and are so humble about it. It really says a lot about your character. I know you said there's no need to thank you, but for what you are doing in your own small way to donate to the Red Cross to help those people really deserves a thanks. Bless you. :rose:

And your craftsmanship is totally lovely as always. :blushes:

how do you get your screw eyes to stay in?
whenever i make charms, they always fall off after some rough use (ex. putting them on your backpack or bag). i've even gone as far as super gluing them in, but they still come out >_<

I use a two-part epoxy to secure them in place. I found regular superglue isn't strong enough and will eventually loosen. In cakes like these I also will bend the eye pin at a 90 degree angle and cover it in the frosting layer to secure it further.

so you actually secure the thing in place while you're still making it? when i do it, i try to screw it in at the very end, so i guess that's why it's really weak...i also use screw eyes instead of eye pins, so i can't bend them. I'm not sure how i can secure it while i'm still making the actual charm though.

i am reading about epoxy on wikipedia. it says it's toxic o_o!

hope you don't mind that i'm asking you all these questions!

I've never worked with the screw in ones before, so I can't really give you any advice I'm afraid.

It is toxic, which is why I work with it in very, very small portions at a time in a well ventilated area. Since it's only used to secure eye pins/earring backs, I don't need too much of it mixed.

I'm not trying to be mean but why the Red Cross? I thought they only help things like natural disasters and suffering countries. Not marathon bombings.

They don't help natural disasters exclusively - they help in any disaster, especially with events like the bombing.

Awesome idea. I'm gonna purchase one once I get paid at the end of the week. If, somehow, the ones that are currently in the shop sell out, they're going to be restocked for the entire month, right?

They will be. I only made 10 in advance but once those sell out (if they do) I'll be adding the same amount back up again.
