1:12 Cupcakes by Bon-AppetEats 1:12 Cupcakes by Bon-AppetEats
Finally managed to get down to 1:12 scale (I hope)!

They still need a little work, but for the size they are, I'm happy they came out looking like this. lol

These will be a part of a larger project I'm working on. c:

Cupcakes made from Polymer Clay. Penny is there to show scale.

What does 1:12 mean?

It's 1:12 scale, which means if something was 12" in real life, it'd be 1" at that specific scale. :)

May I say, not only do you make spectacular work (These look good enough to eat!) but you also are a spectacular person. You're by far my favorite artist in that you reply to every comment and show that you really appreciate us, and you should know, we appreciate you more! Keep it up. These are amazing for how small they are, as is all your work ^^

The easiest way to do it is to make a mold for the base. Take very firm clay and shape it. For the lines, I used the ridged cap off of a small tube of acrylic paint. Bake it and them make a mold from it. It'll keep them pretty uniform and speed up the process. :)

Thank you for the tip! I tried that with my scrap clay but it was hard to pop em out...I also had a flat piece of clay that I rolled a toothpaste cap over, it looked like a comb kind of, and then I would roll the cupcake base over it, but it wasnt workin too good either lol. I have Sculpey Mold Maker now...just havent tried to use it for the cupcakes yet, its kind of hard to work with because of how soft and gooey it is...plus it doesnt take the fine detail from impressions....I will try your method again though...Thank you!!! <3

Try getting some Amazing Mold Putty. It's a silicone mold that'll stay flexible and that you can bake in. That Sculpey Mold Maker was just a waste of money - I tried it as well and I hated it. The Mold Putty is $20, but it takes a while to go through it all. c:

Awww poop lol. Yeah, I paid 11.99 for the mold maker...not sure what to do with it now lol. I will definitely look for that mold putty, is it blue? Theres these mold maker people on Etsy that have really nice detailed molds and they say theyre using a special process...I know its just some kind of liquid mold maker though...or putty...

This putty is yellow but it's basically the same thing. :) As for the mold maker, I've seen people make squishy charms out of it. Maybe give that a shot?

These look great! You must have a lot of patience. I think you got the textures down perfectly- the airy cupcake with the sticky glazed icing. Is that dark chocolate icing? Mmm. You're making me hungry, haha/

Thank you! The icing is dark chocolate on the vanilla ones. It's just not quite that dark - pushed it with the lighting a bit instead of waiting for good light in the morning. :P lol

I was going to say something about how dark the chocolate looked, but I know photographs seldom portray what it looks like in real life, and if you did make it too dark you probably already knew that anyways. =p At any rate, I'm a huge fan for clay miniatures and will continue watching for new creations!
